Google Chrome for Mac: Pitted Against Firefox and Safari
The release of the beta version Google Chrome for Mac has been a year in the making, but so nice to see it finally here. We already know that the new browser is twice as fast as Firefox, but how does it stack up against Apple’s Safari?
A number of benchtests have been run on four browsers, Chrome for Mac came second behind Safari. To give you an idea of how fast this latest browser is, Computer World decided to pit it against the top four and the results are remarkable.
Google Chrome Mac Beta can render JavaScript 10 times quicker than Opera 10.10 and twice as fast as Firefox 3.6 beta 4, but Safari is still 12 percent faster than Google’s latest offering. This is not a bad first try considering Safari is the staple diet of any Mac computer.
Things have always been different on Windows, as Chrome is known for being the fastest browser out there, even faster than Safari for Windows. Google still have time to improve things and no doubt when the browser comes out of beta it will be the preferred option on Mac computers.
If you have downloaded this latest browser from Google on your Mac, then please let us know your thoughts.

Sugar on a Stick v2 Blueberry released
Sugar Labs have released v.2 “Blueberry” of their Sugar on a Stick virtualized OS, intended for deployment in education settings. Originally released in public beta back in April, the platform was originally developed for the OLPC XO-1 notebook but subsequently spun out for any Windows, Mac or Linux computer.
In comparison to the previous version, Sugar on a Stick v.2 Blueberry cleans up the OS’ navigation, improves networking support, streamlines Activities updates and boosts Gnash and Flash support. Sugar Labs have also loaded in some new applications, alongside the existing apps for text-to-speech and other functionality.
Any 1GB flash drive can be used, with Sugar on a Stick running directly from that drive rather than requiring installation. Meanwhile there’s a new site – RecycleUSB – that allows people to donate their unwanted USB drives to be repurposed into “portable learning centers” for 5-12 year olds.

Windows 7 Family Pack
It seems that Microsoft Windows 7 Family packs are selling a lot faster than initial predictions, so much so that Amazon have currently sold out.
The family pack was selling for $149, however now that there is so much demand for the software third-party resellers are selling the pack for at least $100 more.
The family pack is the first that Microsoft have offered for their Operating Systems, it allows you to install Windows 7 Home Premium on up to 3 computers in one household.
It is unclear whether Amazon will be stocking the pack again at that price as they previously stated that the pack will be available “while stocks last”, for more details check out HotHardware.

Twitter’s new beta mobile web interface
There is a new beta version of Twitter mobile, which as you know can be accessed from your handset by visiting http://mobile.twitter.com. This new web client has been built from scratch using their very own API; this is according to Twitter’s Leland Rechis.
The new Twitter mobile website will perform much better when used with Webkit browsers, Blackberry and Microsoft handsets will have to wait a little longer, only until Twitter can finetune its service. For those of you who used to visit m.twitter.com, this location is no longer in use.
This is just the start says Rechis, he said, “We look forward to sharing more cool things with you soon.” To fill the gap left by the original web client, ITProPortal.com has said that a number of third party applications have popped up; this is something that Twitter wants to address.
The sad fact is, some of these third party providers are charging for this service, and are earning themselves a small fortune in the process. Twitter have arranged for a number of cell phone carriers in the UK to offer this service for free.
